Conference Comparison

Best First Data Center Conference to Attend

If you're attending your first data center industry conference, the sheer number of options can be overwhelming. Here's how to pick the right one based on your role and what you want to get out of it.

For vendors and subcontractors looking to meet GCs and developers, Data Center World is the most accessible starting point. It's large enough to have a real exhibit hall where you can walk the floor and introduce yourself to project teams, but not so large that you get lost in the crowd. The education sessions also give you a legitimate reason to be there beyond sales.

For GCs and EPCs looking to connect with developers, the DCD Connect series (Dallas, New York, San Jose) offers a more focused environment. These events are smaller than Data Center World but the attendee quality is higher — you're more likely to find yourself in a room with actual decision-makers rather than junior marketing staff.

If you're in the Mid-Atlantic corridor, the 7x24 Exchange chapter events are the best low-commitment entry point. They're inexpensive, local, and the networking is genuine because everyone knows each other from the regional market.

Budget tip: start with a regional chapter event or a single-day DICE event before committing to a multi-day national conference. You'll learn the format, make initial contacts, and figure out which larger events deserve your travel budget.
