Monterey Park, California voters passed Measure NDC in a landslide, banning data centers within city limits. The measure was prompted by StratCap's proposal to demolish an office building and construct a 250,000-square-foot data center. Opponents argued the facility would have tripled the city's electricity consumption, raising prices and pollution. StratCap, an Australia-based company, did not respond to requests for comment. Nearby City of Industry is still pursuing data center development, including a battery energy storage system to power a proposed facility. Anti-data-center activists plan to oppose that project as well.
